February 2010 - LiveCity West House Project
 |
VANCOUVER – West House is a demonstration sustainable laneway home built as a showcase for the Olympic Games, and displayed at the Vancouver Yaletown LiveCity Site. It features a complete roof built with MSR Innovations’ SolTrak™ modular solar roofing system.
The design of the house includes a large south-facing slope, which has a square of solar tiles integrated into the centre of the slope face. These tiles can generate a kilowatt of electrical power on a sunny day. The balance of the roof is covered with non-solar tiles in a charcoal colour.
This project is the result of a partnership between the City of Vancouver, Simon Fraser University, and host of local companies, with federal funding from Western Economic Diversification. It showcases leading-edge small footprint residential design, energy efficient, integrated systems and interactive technologies that encourage a sustainable lifestyle.
